Simple Ground Goat Burgers

A familiar, approachable way to enjoy goat meat. Ground goat is lean, flavorful and can be prepared much like ground beef.

What you’ll need

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground goat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil, optional if the ground goat is very lean
Step by step

Instructions

  1. 01Place the ground goat in a bowl.
  2. 02Add the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce and olive oil, if using.
  3. 03Gently combine the ingredients without overworking the meat.
  4. 04Divide into 3–4 portions and form into patties.
  5. 05Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat.
  6. 06Cook the burgers for approximately 4–5 minutes per side, depending on thickness.
  7. 07Cook until the center reaches 160°F.
  8. 08Remove from the heat and rest for a few minutes.
  9. 09Serve on toasted buns with your favorite toppings.

One package, another dinner

Easy variation: Ground Goat Tacos

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground goat
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 1 tbsp taco seasoning
  • ⅓ cup water
  • Warm tortillas and preferred toppings

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground goat and chopped onion; cook while breaking the meat into small pieces.
  3. Add the taco seasoning and water.
  4. Continue cooking until the meat reaches 160°F and the liquid has mostly reduced.
  5. Serve in warm tortillas with cilantro, onion, salsa, avocado and fresh lime.
